Jacob's Mouth Piece
Jacob is the overseer of the Island. I think it is more than a title than a person that is passed on from person to person.
When Oceanic Flight 115 crashed on the Island, Ben was the only one of the others who could communicate with Jacob. As time has gone on through the seasons, this mantel has been passed on to Locke. They can both be considered mouth pieces for Jacob for the people living on the Island.
I think one of the previous mouth pieces for Jacob was Charles Whitmore. In an episode this past season, we saw a foreshadow where Ben encountered Whitmore at Whitmore's home. Whitmore told Ben, that Ben took everything from him. I think that is why Whitmore wants the Island. He not only used to be on the island, but he used to be Jacob's mouth piece.
I also think that Aaron has a connection with Jacob. He was born on the island, which is a miracle in itself. Could he be the next mouth piece, or even Jacob himself?
Maybe Jack is supposed to be the next leader, and so they have to go back? OR, maybe Claire's baby will be the next leader?
